ROSE'S EXTREME-LY GREAT MAKEOVER!!! (read Rose's story below)

She was a poor, dirty, sick dog brought into Animal Control as a stray.
Her ears and eyes were infected, grossly overweight at 107lbs., about 40% of
her body had no fur and what was there was very dry and thin, all of her skin
was dark black and she had an odor like a garbage dump. Barely recognizable as
a Golden Retriever, we named her Rose. As she left the shelter and walked into
the fresh air, this seemingly listless, sad pathetic girl got a spring in her
step and rolled around on the back seat as we drove to Briarcliff Animal
Hospital to begin her journey onto her new life.
Upon presentation, it was determined that Rose had a Thyroid Condition and her
entire body was covered in a yeast infection. Her recovery would take months,
demand baths every three days with special shampoo, antibiotics and
inexpensive lifelong thyroid medication. After ten days in the hospital, she
was released to be fostered until adopted.
As each day passed, her eyes and ears became clearer, her flaky, dry skin
didn’t shed as much, each bath revealed skin a little pinker than before, and
little wisps of fur began to show in the bare spots. But most noticeable was
Rose’s spirit! Even in her darkest moments, she welcomed a loving touch, was
quick to lick a face and always, always, always wagged her tail. Her
ball-catching skills surfaced and every moment, even sometimes in her sleep,
saw her with a plush toy in her mouth.
As the weeks and months progressed, this once pathetic dog emerged as a
stunning, soft, beautiful and very spirited Golden Retriever. Within six
months, her weight dropped to 70.2 lbs and soft, downy fur about an inch long
appeared over her entire body. In no time at all, she is the beautiful,
elegant girl that she once was before her sad saga began.
Presently, she is enjoying life with her new family - the one that fostered
her - and her Four Golden Retriever sisters, Katie, Brooke, Ellie and Paige.
Rose enjoys her dog goody and rawhide each morning, running in the sun and
endlessly catching a ball, her own bed at night and a family who loves her
very much. This once ugly duckling has indeed emerged as the elegant swan and
has taught all of us at G.R.E.A.T. Rescue the true meaning of “rescue”.
